Kevin Harrington, CEO of TVGoods.com, LLC, is widely acknowledged as the pioneer and principal architect of the “infomercial” industry. Since producing the industry’s first infomercial in the 1980s, Harrington has financed more than 500 product launches resulting in sales of more than $4 billion worldwide with 20 products reaching individual sales of over $100 million each, and creating dozens of millionaires.

Harrington got his start in direct TV marketing with his company Quantum International, which after merging with National Media in 1991 grew to over $500 Million in annual sales with distribution in over 100 countries in 20 languages. Regarded as a tireless entrepreneur with a talent for identifying blockbuster products, Harrington’s business was a case study that was chronicled and taught for over 12 years at Harvard/MIT, called “The Rise, The Fall and The rise of Quantum International.” The case study is used as a teaching guide about what it means to be a grass-roots entrepreneur in a fiercely competitive industry.

In his latest venture, Harrington is an investor on a new ABC show called “Shark Tank”, in which budding entrepreneurs compete in pitching their potentially moneymaking ideas to business experts in hopes of securing investment financing. The show is owned by SONY Pictures and produced by Mark Burnett.

Harrington is uniquely qualified as an investor/shark because of his involvement over his career in a wide range of industries. As a young entrepreneur at the age of 19, Harrington launched and operated a successful company that reached $1 million in annual sales and employed 25 people, all while still in college. In 1979, he started Franchise America, a franchise consulting and brokerage business, through which he sold thousands of businesses, giving him insight to the inner workings of dozens of industries; from restaurants to retail to small manufacturing, etc.

OK if you watched this episode you hopefully know what "contingent" means.  And I hope everyone realizes that if you get funding contingent upon a contract with a multi billion company you surely don't have to give up 50% of the pie! 

These Greedy sharks landed another record catch!!!!

No risk and 50% of the pie for a measly $200k…..ahhh another good guy gets taken due to lack of knowledge!

The first to enter the shark tank is the producer of custom-made bobbleheads where customers provide pictures of the person they want to put in their Bobbleheads and pick a body they want. Jeff Wolsky seeks for $75k for 18% stake of his company called The Bobble Place. The sharks became interested when they found out that Jeff already had more than a million sales in his other business. 

• Kevin O. offered $75K for 18% stake of his online business but Jeff doesn't like the idea of including his existing business to this deal. 

• Kevin O. bounced back with $100k for 20% stake while Robert offered $125k for 20% ownership.  

• Daymond, Kevin H. and Barbara were out. 

• Kevin O. again offered $100k for 20%.

• Robert also offered $125k for 20%.

• Jeff countered that Kevin O. and Robert joins in with their money added which makes $225k and with 10% each stake.

• Jeff was sent out of the tank so that Kevin O. and Robert can talk

• Then offered him  $100k for 20% but Jeff didn't accept it.

• Robert brought back his offer of $125k for 20% stake.

• Kevin was out and Jeff countered for $100k for 7% ownership, Robert got confused and jumped out of the deal.

Second to enter the tank was Sandy Hyun and Roman Peitrs looking for $50k for 25% ownership of Mr. Poncho which is an MP3 Player case with headphone wrapping device to prevent tangles. As expected none got interested because of the low profit and they don't have the patent for the earphone cords.

Dr. Floyd Seskin was next to face the sharks, he presented his invention, The Uro Club which is the discrete, sanitary way for your urgent relief. Created by a Board Certified Urologist, it looks like an ordinary golf club, but contains a reservoir built into the grip to relieve yourself. The UroClub is leak proof, easy to clean and no more embarrassing moments.

He asked for $25k for a 51% stake. Almost all of the sharks didn't buy it except for Kevin H. who offered $25k for a 70% stake, Dr. Floyd accepted it.

The last to enter the tank for this season were Brian Duggan and Adam McCombs presenting Jump Forward… changing the way people manage, track, and organize sports relationship information through the web and mobile devices to create unparalleled value and market efficiencies.

The colleges pay for the subscription fee and the athletes can sign up for free, presently there are 30 schools sign up and 300 college coaches and 60,000 athletes in their system.

They were asking for  $150k for a 10% stake of the business. Barbara, Kevin H. and Daymond were not confident to bid.

Kevin O. offered $200k for 20%, Robert countered for $300k for 30%.

Kevin O. asked the two entrepreneurs to step out of the tank so he can talk to Robert.

Kevin O. and Robert agreed to offer $400 for 50%, but when the 2 came back they countered the offer with $200k for 16%.

Kevin O. and RObert presented another deal with $600k for 50%, after some arguements and barter, it end up Brian and Adam accepting Kevin O. and Robert's offer.

First to dip into the shark tank was Dan Mackey, asking for $50k for a 10% stake for his Chill Soda Business, a healthy alternative to soda, it's low in glycemic, organic, low calories, it's a good source of antioxidants and has vitamins c & D. The sharks got turned off when he said that he had sold only 250 cans last year, which he corrected to 250,000 cans last year with a sales of $175K. He also admitted that he doesn't know much about the beverage business and that he is a marketing guy. Almost all the sharks jumped out of the deal, except for Barbara who offered $50k for 20%. The other sharks convinced her not to pursue because of the competition but Barbara like Dan's honesty, so they closed the deal. I think Barbara has her plans in mind to take the risk.

The second hopeful is a father and daughter tandem Kristina Broderick and her father Dr. Geoffrey Broderick, a veterinarian. They presented their pet food product, Cornucopia Express is a probiotic food that can extend the lives of our pet dogs and cats by 50%. They were looking for $300k for a 15% stake. Almost all the sharks are skeptical and although Kevin O believe in what the Doctor  said, he's not willing to push through.

Jim Dimascio and Ray Latypov was next up, they presented a Virtusphere, which consists of a 10-foot hollow sphere, which is placed on a special platform that allows the sphere to rotate freely in any direction according to the user’s steps. Wearing a wireless, head-mounted display the user is able to walk and run being immersed into virtual environment. The movement by the user is replicated within the virtual environment. The same hardware set can be used for different applications by changing only the software applications. Virtusphere can be used in military training, gaming and entertainment, virtual travel etc.

They were asking for $1.5 million for 10% ownership which is too high for an investment and although the sharks love it. They were all out.

The last to enter the tank was Gayla Bentley, she's looking for $250k for a 20% ownership of her Gayla Bentley Fashion business, it's a line of clothing for plus size women. Robert, Kevin H., and Kevin O. were all out. Barbara said that she will provide half of the money she needs if Gayla can convince Daymond to join in her offer and put up the other half. Daymond offered his $125K partnering with Barbara for 50% of the business. Gayla accepted the deal.

This week's episode also gave an update on Ava the Elephant, a method used by Tiffany Krumens in giving medicine to kids. She partnered with Barbara and soon AVA the Elephant will be available in pharmacies all over the country. The sad news is that Tiffany was diagnosed with cancer but she already undergone an operation and now she's cancer free.

First up were D.J. Stephan & Sean Conway with the business,Notehall, a website that buy and sell notes and study guides to college students from the University of Arizona. The company gives the onwer of the notes 40% and keeps the rest as transaction fee. Today, 40% of the students of the university were using this site. They were asking for $90k for a 10% stake for the expansion of the business to other schools. Kevin H. and Daymond was out.

• Kevin O. bids $90k for 51%

• Barbara offered $90k for 50%.

• The two entrepreneurs countered for 15% and that they will give the shark investor their share of the company if they don't hit $1 million revenue over the next year. 

• Noone got interested but Kevin O. gave them another offer of 35% for $90k.

• Barbara countered for 25%.

• Robert came offering $115k for 35%,

• Kevin O. offered the same,

• Barbara added that they can buy her out of the business in 6 months by giving her money back with 20% interest.

• RObert and Kevin O. joined force to offer them $90k for 25%.

• D.J. and sean chose to deal with Barbara.

This is where Kevin stands and followed them outside the shark tank telling them that they make a big mistake.

Second to swim with the sharks was Lisa Lloyd, owner of the Treasure Chest Pets, a new patented line of organizers with secret compartments that look like fun stuffed animals for girls and boys. They feature attachable pillow heads to snuggle up with and specially designed bodies that organize and store treasures on the inside and out! Lisa asked for $150,000 for 25% stake. She stated that she sold over $100k but can't provide more because of lack of capital. Both Kevin O. and Kevin H. were out.  Barbara offered 50k, then Daymond asked her to join him to bid for $150 for 60% stake.  Robert proposed a loan of $150k with no equity.  Lisa chose the offer of Daymond and Barbara because of their expertise.

The next episode comprise of entrepreneurs presenting a healthy soda, a pet food supplement, a virtual reality locomotion simulator and fashion clothes for plus size women. Find out why episode 9 created lots of confusing pitches.

Leslie Haywood was the first to dip into the shark tank this evening, searching for $50K for a 25% ownership of her Grill Charms  business which already made $60k in her first year.

Everyone was charmed by Leslie's product except for Barbara.

Kevin O. offered $50K for 50% with 7% royalty.

Kevin H. offered $50K for 50% stake with his expertise with infomercials for the development of the product. 

Robert and Daymond wants to join in with Kevin H but he said that he needs Daymond's expertise only.

Robert really wanted to win it and offered $50k for 25%.

Leslie talked to his husband for a moment and came back with a counter to Kevin H. and Daymond's offer with 49% stake, but the two sharks didn't agree.

Kevin O. decided to make it 20% stake for $50k without the royalty.

The battle ended with Leslie accepting Robert's offer of 20% ownership. I'm wondering if these guys were under spell that night, you'll really feel that they wanted to win the battle and even offered more than hopeful asked for.

Next into the shark tank is a magician, Todd Robbins and a knife-thrower, David Adamovich of New York City, they are looking for $300k for a 20% stake of The Funhouse Project, which is a 25,000 SF amusement park in Times Square area. when the sharks learned that it will cost $1.5 million to build and about $7.4 million annual expenses, they all think that it's too risky, they were all out.

Next up were Dede Barbanti-Parra and Kathy Lam developed their own workout routine, they call it "Boogie Box Fitness" which presents a unique blend of high intensity hip hop & Latin dancing, mixed with kickboxing, plyometric exercises and military drills choreographed in intervals in order to really burn off those calories. They are asking for $700k which they will use to launch their home DVD line for 70% stake. Although Barbara was impressed, but the amount of money they are asking was too high to risk. They all vowed out.

The last to swim with the sharks was Sawyer Sparks, asking for $125k for a 25% stake of his company. Soy-Yer Dough is a gluten free modeling compound that is non-toxic, fun scented and safe for children and parents whom cannot play or touch wheat products. What makes the sharks interested in when he said that Play-Doh offered him $500,000.

Kevin O. offered $125k for 51% stake and help him close the deal with Play-Doh. Sawyer countered for 40%.

Daymond, Kevin H. and Barbara believe that Kevin O's offer was the best offer and they were out.

Robert offers $125k for a 40% stake. 

Daymond, Robert and Kevin O. joined forces and offered $100k each for 51% of the clay business and Sawyer accepted it.

Next episode 4 entrepreneurs will face the sharks, one in an online study guides business, another in a toy business, third sells socks in 3's and a the last entrepreneur sells belt as fashion accessory. Only 2 will be receive offers from the sharks, can you guess who?

Kwame Kuadey was first to swim into the shark tank, his into an internet based Gift Card Rescue business which buys unused gift cards at about 70% of their face value, and then sells them online.  Barbara, Daymond and Kevin H. were not interested but when he said that Amazon wants to deal with him regarding partnership, Kevin O. immediately offered $150k for 50% of the business. Kwame countered for 40% but Kevin O. didn't agree. Robert joins Kevin O. raising the offer to $200k for 50% ownership. It's a very good offer and Kwame accepted it.

Gina Catroneo, owner of Souls Calling Inc. is the next entrepreneur to face the sharks, she got inspired and started her business after surviving an attack a decade ago, and come up with an idea of inspiring people with positive messages in her gift items like slippers and umbrellas but the sharks didn't bite because of the very low profit.

Dan Claffey, another hopeful intrepreneur with gift idea business, who holds trademarks for coffee product names to be used in plush toys. He is looking for $300k for 40% ownership and admitted he doesn't have any sales. They all said No.

Paul Watts, Graffiti Removal Services, is the Nation’s First completely mobile Graffiti Removal Company, he claimed that they use  most advanced method of removing graffiti and blight while keeping our environment safe. He's looking for $350K for a 15% stake in his business. Kevin O goes in on the deal and suggests that Paul would just be an employee of theirs, Paul didn't agree.
