Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and we understand and agree with your critique, based on what you were able to view. However please understand that there is very little "reality" to "reality TV." What you saw in the Hells Bells presentation was greatly edited. The pair were in with the "Sharks" for 42 minutes (the producers told them that was a Shark Tank record), and that was edited down to what you saw. The points you discussed were all raised, and that's why they were in the Tank for so long. ABC kept what they wanted. They also did not show the "back story" about the company, which they did film in the workshop in Philadelphia, as they did with most of the others. Perhaps that's because they knew the deal dropped out and there was no longer anything in it for them, so no need to promote the company any more than necessary for the show. The two went with the intent to find a licensing deal, it was not that the Sharks had to bring it up. While it may not have come off that way due to his nervousness, the real genius behind the business is the artistic talent, vision and creativity of owner and designer Marix Stone. The other extremely valuable asset to the business is the utility patent, which is good on ANY helmet in ANY industry, and they did discuss that in length. What viewers did not see was that, nor when Nancy and Marix went to discuss "in private" what to do with the offer. That is why it seems they took the deal so quickly. The accepted deal was also NOT the deal that viewers saw. The deal shown on TV stated: Hells Bells was giving up 50% of their company for $500,000. Pretty cut and dry and pretty unrealistic when you really think of the power Hells Bells has due to owning the utility patent on ANY artistry on ANY helmet! Something's missing? The REAL deal that was not shown, due to editing by the Burnett production company, stated: Hells Bells was giving up 50% of their company for $500,000 "worth of manufacturing costs" and giving licensing options (though not exclusive), and did not include the existing online store or any other part of the existing company. So this of course did not include the patent. As you can see, there is a HUGE difference in the deal and how it was perceived on TV! Hells Bells is not a new business. It is 10 years old, and the product is in great demand. Sales are strong and more than 60% of their business are repeat customers. The Sharks are looking for people with far less experience that they can take advantage of. In the end, the Shark who took the deal was looking to have the product made in China and then sell back the product to Hells Bells, at a profit margin much greater than the 50% he offered. It was also not what was agreed to. That Shark refused to meet in person with anyone from Hells Bells, and just had Venture Capital people calling them. It does not appear that the Sharks use their own money at all, as the show claims. They are using OPM, in the form of Venture Capital companies. Marix has worked very hard at inventing the process, designing the artwork and the helmets, and building his business. The motorcycle industry is HUGE (it is a lifestyle), and this area alone has consumed his time. He is very concerned about maintaining the integrity of the artwork and serving his customers. The Hells Bells deal is not at all what it appears to be, and Marix did not have a good feeling about it. So they are no longer working with the Shark, and no papers were ever signed. The exposure was very good for them and it is certain they can find someone who really "gets" what this business can do, as they are also moving into apparel and accessories as well (with Marix' designs), and now designing helmets for the "snow sports." Up until now he was so busy he never tried to license the product or find investors. He will make the time to do so now.
